A Learning Place
Every child should have access to a quality education
Lack of resources shouldn’t limit a child’s potential
Burkina Faso has the lowest literacy rate in the world.
By law, education is free in Burkina Faso, but the government is not able to provide resources to guarantee free primary education for children.
Communities are frequently responsible for building school structures and teacher housing but are simply unable to do so. As a result, many children never receive an education because there is no school available.
Our goal is to build new schools in numerous villages so children can learn and grow to their full potential.
Kouka Mary Academy
Education has always been at the heart of Bridges to Burkina. We knew that if we were going to break the cycles of poverty we needed to start with children.
In 2022 we opened the doors to our first school near the village of Tangin-Dassouri. From the outside , it may look like simple classrooms on a piece of land, but within those walls is a revolution of opportunity.
We started with preschoolers, children who otherwise would not have had access to early education.
In addition to the basics of reading, writing and mathmatics, we introduce technology and English as a second language. Although Burkina is French-speaaking, we know that English will open doors of opportunity.
A Solar power with battery backup system provides lighting and the ability to use iPads and laptops, something not available in most grade schools
iPADS AND COMPUTERS
We have iPads and laptops, donated by supporters in the U.S. For many of our students, this is their first time touching a keyboard.
Watching their eyes light up as they learn to type, or draw with a mouse, is a reminder that education is not just about academics; It is about giving a child a vision for what is possible.
AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES
We also offer after school computer training for older students from the surrounding communities.
